Movie Review: The Letter Writer
Quick Plot Summary: Inspiring movie of an elderly man making a difference in the lives of others and particularly a teenage girl through the letters he writes.
Rating: Great
Suggested Ages: 9+
This is not a specifically "Christian film" and nor do I particularly think it is of high acting/production quality (it's fine/reasonable, but nothing to write home about). And yet, I have come back to it several times since I first watched it some years back. Because, there's something just plain infectious about this film.
Ultimately, you will leave this film feeling encouraged and emboldened to make a difference in the lives of others. The central theme of this film is that we can spread some love and cheer to those around us and that what we do can literally change the course of a person's life. And what's extra cool about this message is that the main character we see initiating this action is a very elderly "shut in" - the very type of person many would think/say can't make a difference...
This inspirational film showcases the power of a kind word and compliment to others - showing them love. And it culminates with a catchy song played at the end of the film which is all about how actions we do have an inherent effect on these other humans we are surrounded with on this planet.
Again, not really a Christian film per se, but fairly compatible in the generic message it seeks to portray. Worth a watch!
